Our Honeymoon: Romance in the islands of Fiji and a side trip to Hollywood

So, I was a bit different than your average bride. Yes, I wanted the beautiful white dress, I stressed about what song I would walk down the aisle too, and what my cake should look like. But, all of that was almost secondary to my honeymoon (except for...of course the actual covenant I made with my husband!). I always felt that the actual wedding celebration was more for the guests and the honeymoon was just for us. I had always told Scott that I wanted to set aside a large chunk of our wedding money because I wanted the most amazing, exotic, memorable and romantic honeymoon we could dream (of course, in our price range). I had told him for years that my dream was to go to Fiji, 16 hour flight, across the international date line, on the complete other side of the world, where we would be the only Americans for miles and miles.

So, what did Scott do? He found just that. Nestled in the rain forrest of Viti Levu, the main island of Fiji, was a boutique resort on the water that was host to a mere 14 Bure's (huts). Paradise.
The grounds were gorgeous and very well kept, all though we had air conditioned rooms, our dining area was open air and it was magical.

Our neighbors were Kiwis (from New Zealand) on their honeymoon, there were also a few Germans, a guy from Norway and a few other Kiwis, a couple of asians and the resort was operated by Fijians. Basically, we were the ONLY Americans. Just the way I wanted it. One night, we ate with the Norwegian (who we secretly called Nordie) and a woman from Australia. That was really interesting! We would chat with the other visitors as well, everyone was really nice.

We spent our days eating, relaxing, walking the beach, we snorkeled ALOT and took lots of naps and watched Asian Takeaway (Asia's MTV). The 2 weeks we stayed were completely wonderful! I want to go back so bad and really explore more of the islands and maybe take up our Kiwi neighbors on their open invitation to crash at their farm on the north island of New Zealand!

Excited and Exhausted Newlyweds!

I had a hard time believing that that was the South Pacific
I was looking out toward New Zealand and Antarctica!

Before we hopped on the plane, we spent a few hours in
Nadi and at at Hard Rock

We left Fiji on a Friday and flew 10 hours to Los Angeles and arrived Friday morning! So, we lived that day twice....LONGEST DAY EVER. Once we landed in LA, we had about a 10 hour layover, not quite enough time to fully explore, so we decided to be completely spontaneous and bumped our flight to the next night, found a rental car, a hotel and decided to do Hollywood and LA in style!!

That night we walked around Santa Monica  and took in the nightlight, walked on the pier and dipped our toes into the Pacific Ocean. Back at the hotel, we stayed up until 3am planning our next day's activities. We had to have the car back by 9pm and our plane left at 11pm.

We woke up at 7am sharp, packed our bags and headed to grab breakfast. We drove around Beverly Hills and Hollywood looking at all the beautiful homes and saw some iconic sites! We parked the car and walk around Rodeo Drive, hoping we would see a celebrity. I was really hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the notorious celebrities like Britney or Lindsey having a fit in one of the boutiques...no such luck..haha

Hollywood Blvd was really neat. We walked along the Walk of Fame, saw Kodak Theater where they host the Oscars, the Chinese Theater and toured Madame Tussaud's wax museum. By the time lunch came around we were so utterly exhausted and our eyes burned so bad. We had to stop into CVS and buy Visine. Literally the only thing that was keeping us up was our excitement for adventure.

The last thing we did that day was tour WB Studios in Burbank (directly on the other side of the Hollywood sign). It was so incredibly neat, best part of the day! Next time I want to tour Disney Studios. By the time we dropped off our car at 9pm and made our way to the airport,  we were utterly exhausted and sitting there for 2 hours for take off was kinda unbearable. But again, TOTALLY WORTH IT!!

Did a little window shopping on Rodeo Drive

We took a tour of WB Studios in Burbank!

The real set for the tv show Friends!!

We arrived back at home at 5:30am and crashed for the rest of the day. By Far, the BEST Honeymoon we could ever dream up. If I could go back, I wouldn't change a thing.
